Mah MaMa and I picked out this new pillow for Le Mops, but I ordered it in extra large when she wasn’t looking. When it came, I said, “This is too big for the lil’ alien, so I’ll take care of it!” Doncha think it’s too big fer Le Mops, but perfect for me…

Le Mops is Almost Here

I thought i’d post dis photo of Le Mops…..one of those lil aliens will be mah new brother. I’m come to accept this, but don’t think I’m giving up mah side of the bed. Mah mama also said I should stop calling Le Mops an alien, but until I see fer sure, I don’t think he’s a pug….I mean, he doesn’t look like me! Do you think so?

I’ve been getting ready for Le Mops, moving furniture and setting stuff up. I gots ta hide all mah monkees, ya know. Well, I threw out mah back. I’ve gots sum compression or sumptin. The alien baby isn’t even here yet, and I gots a bad back already! I’m on 30 days of bed rest and got sum steroids ta take. They are chewable, but I’m not tellin MaMa that so I get lots of cheese. I love cheese. The house is almost ready for Le Mops tho! Maybe he can be trained to get me mah food. From here on out, mah MaMa is going to move the dog beds.

I don’t know how I feel about having a new baby brother, but mah MaMa sez it will be okay. I trust her, so I guess it will be okay. I hope the new alien lil brother doesn’t bite me so much. I like mah ears.

What is a Le Mops?

It all started when someone called Chewie “Le Mops” a couple years ago. A quick search online proved that Mops was the word for “pug” in several languages, including Swedish and German. (Doguillo is pug in Spanish!) It was a French boy who called Chewie Le Mops, and it seemed that many french speakers use the word mops instead of Carlin for pug! Who knew?
Later, we learned that Mops was the name of Marie Antoinette’s pug in the Sofia Coppola movie. Well, really, I found the story of Marie Antoinette’s pug, which may have been named almost anything and later learned about the movie. What is for sure is that her dog was a Mops (a pug!). Marie Antoinette actually had several pugs. With no definite reference to the pugs’ names, it seems that Sofia Coppola has made Mops famous! We still haven’t seen the movie at our house. Does anyone recommend it? Anyone?
Regardless of the rather muddled etymology, Le Mops became somewhat of an inside joke between me and Ricky. We’d occasionally call Chewie Le Mops before that was replaced by Puguillo. I mistakingly heard a little boy at Disneyland who, I am now am almost positive, was actually saying Doguillo. While looking for a new puppy, we called the future pug, Le Mops. When it came time to pick a name, I asked Ricky, “What do you want to name the puppy?”
He looked at me, and seriously said, “Le Mops.”
And so it goes…

Mah MaMa showed me some videos of the aliens again last night. She sez they are Le Mops, and his brothers and sisters, and that they are in SeaAttle.
I dunno where SeaAttle is, but mah MaMa sez I get to go to daycare while her and the Ricky Daddy go get Le Mops. Right now, the aliens aren’t ready to leave their Mommy’s house.

Rest Easy, You Can Keep Your Boys
from Ask Chewie: The Pug LifeLevine is pulling AB1634 due to lack of support from his constituents and fellow senators. He is listening to the people at least (or he’s worried about re-election). So no more mandatory spay neuter bill!
AP news and Rueters are both reporting that Levine pulled AB1634 (the so called healthy pet bill) fearing it would fail in the Senate Local Government Committee. During a hearing yesterday, most lawmakers said that they were unhappy with the proposal. Depending on which news story you read, Levine may have said that he plans to reintroduce the bill next year!
When Levine realized that there weren’t enough votes in the five-member committee to pass his measure, he suggested weakening it so that spaying and neutering would not be mandatory. Instead, he proposed that spaying and neutering would only be required if a dog or cat was running free or a complaint was lodged against an animal owner.
“If in violation of other animal laws, you have to spay and neuter,” Levine said in describing his proposed change.
But both GOP lawmakers on the committee appeared unwilling to vote for the bill even with the amendment. The committee chair—Sen. Gloria Negrete-McLeod, D-Chino (Riverside County)—also appeared to be opposed to the measure. Levine then said he would leave the bill in committee until next year.
